Cryptography and AI Security Lab

We design and analyse cryptographic protocols for private computation, private data access and verifiable digital exchange, including applications in privacy-preserving machine learning. We also study the security of distributed learning systems. Our work spans formal security analysis, cryptanalysis, implementation and performance evaluation.

Based at Newcastle University and led by Dr Aydin Abadi.

Our mission

Research aims

We study what can be computed, retrieved or exchanged when data, models or participants cannot all be trusted.

The programme covers privacy-preserving computation and learning, private access and verifiable computation, financial cryptography, and cryptanalysis. We state the assumptions and leakage of each protocol and evaluate implementation costs where appropriate.
